Coca-Cola's Quiet Crusade in Nigeria: 75 Years of Making a Difference

The Coca-Cola System has been making a significant impact in Nigeria for over 75 years. The company's presence in the country goes beyond just selling drinks, with a range of initiatives aimed at improving people's lives.

One of the key areas where Coca-Cola is making a difference is in water stewardship. In communities where clean water is scarce, the company has partnered with local organizations to provide access to safe drinking water through initiatives such as the Strengthening Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (S-WASH) programme.

In Borno State, for example, the S-WASH project has fixed boreholes and installed handwashing stations in six communities, benefiting over 16,000 people. In Imo State, the company helped restore vegetation along the Otamiri River to protect it from pollution and ensure a sustainable water supply.

Coca-Cola is also working to address plastic waste by launching recycling programmes such as Empowering Collectors Initiative, Plastics Recycling Programme (PReP), CyclePlast, Tidy Nigeria, and Green Campus. These initiatives have helped create income opportunities for thousands of Nigerians and empowered them with steady earnings.
