Coca-Cola's customizable can tool has come under fire for inconsistent moderation rules. According to an investigation by Fox News Digital, the tool blocks mainstream religious phrases like 'Jesus is Lord' and political slogans like 'Make America Great,' but allows left-wing activism, right-wing group names, and even terms associated with child exploitation.
The study found that religious and faith-based expressions were strictly suppressed compared to secular or alternative viewpoints. For example, phrases like 'God is Dead' and 'Atheist Pride' were allowed, while affirmations like 'Jesus is Lord' and 'Allah is Lord' were blocked.
Coca-Cola's online customization tool also permits patriotic or right-leaning slogans like 'Make America Great,' along with specific political leader names and racial or identity pride phrases. However, left-wing political slogans like 'Defund the Police' and controversial groups like the far-right 'Proud Boys' are acceptable.
The investigation discovered that even extreme and harmful phrases like 'Pedophile Pride' and 'MAP Pride' (Minor-Attracted Person) were permitted by the filter. Additionally, basic text loophole tactics, such as adding spaces or numbers to words, bypassed the system's security rules.
