George Burnett Brockenbrough, a renowned computer pioneer and community leader, passed away at the age of 95 in Greenwood, SC. He had a storied career with IBM, helping to develop and refine the first generation of commercial computers.

Born in Tryon, NC, George made lifelong friends in Kinards, SC, where he moved at age six. He attended Clinton public schools and later graduated with honors from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering.

George served two years in the Army Ordinance Corps at Aberdeen, Maryland, before joining IBM in 1956. His military service took him to Endicott, New York, and Atlanta, Georgia, where he made significant contributions to computer technology.

He returned to his hometown of Clinton, SC, in 1961 to install the company's first computers at Clinton Mills. In 1969, George led the Greenwood Mills Data Processing Department until his retirement in 1996.

A devoted member of the community, George was involved with numerous organizations, including the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood. He is survived by three daughters, four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
