The consumer discretionary sector reported mixed results in Q2, with some companies exceeding analyst expectations while others fell short.
Scholastic (SCHL) was one of the worst performers, missing revenue estimates by 7.9% and posting a 6.3% year-over-year decline to $476.1 million. The company's full-year EBITDA guidance also missed analyst expectations significantly.
Peter Warwick, President and Chief Executive Officer, noted that the company made progress in its multi-year transformation of governance, organization, strategy, and balance sheet in fiscal 2026.
On the other hand, AMC Entertainment (AMC) reported a strong quarter, with revenues up 14.2% year-over-year to $1.60 billion, beating analyst expectations by 8.7%. The company's stock price has risen 42.8% since reporting.
