Consumer Stocks Steal Spotlight from Nvidia
Nvidia's impressive second-quarter performance has drawn attention away from other consumer stocks that are quietly outperforming. Cheesecake Factory, Victoria's Secret, Cracker Barrel, CarMax, and Airbnb have risen between 38% and 130% this year.
Cracker Barrel's stock surge of over 62% since its surprise Q3 profit guidance raise in June has been driven by stronger sales trends, cost improvements, and strategic changes. The company is also undergoing a transition with David Deno taking over as CEO from Julie Masino.
Cheesecake Factory stock has more than doubled this year, thanks to strong growth from its restaurant brands, including Fox Restaurant Concepts' Flower Child, which posted 21% sales growth and 19.6% margins in Q2.
Airbnb stock has ridden the acceleration in global travel demand and an 'AI-native' product push, while CarMax's jump of over 65% is attributed to better used-car inventory conditions, stronger sales volumes, and tighter cost controls.
