Cook's Greatest Legacy: Leadership with Heart
Tim Cook's tenure as Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) CEO came to an end on August 31, 2026. Under his leadership, the company's market capitalization grew from $350 billion to over $4.6 trillion.
A key investment figure, Deepwater Asset Management Managing Partner Gene Munster, acknowledged Cook's impressive business accomplishments in a blog post. However, what stood out to Munster was not Apple's valuation, but rather the former CEO's character.
'What I most admire about Cook is that despite all of the fortune and fame of becoming the world’s most powerful CEO, he kept his North Star and always cared deeply about people,' Munster wrote.
Cook achieved numerous business milestones during his 15-year tenure. He took Steve Jobs' legacy and Apple Inc into a new era, recognizing the iPhone's potential to transcend a mere device and turn Services into a massive segment for the company. This move significantly boosted profitability, with gross margins increasing from 40.5% in 2011 to 50.1% in June 2026.
Cook also invested early in a direct relationship with the White House during President Donald Trump's first term and established strong ties with Chinese leadership. Munster credited Cook for navigating geopolitics effectively, stating 'he kept everyone happy.'
