Costume Designer Bob Mackie Passes Away at 87 Leaving Behind Iconic Sequined Legacy
Ronald Gordon Mackie, known as the 'Sultan of Sequins,' passed away at the age of 87. The renowned costume designer was celebrated for his work on numerous television shows and films throughout his six-decade career.
Mackie's extensive portfolio includes collaborations with iconic artists such as Cher, who he worked with for decades, producing some of her most memorable looks, including the infamous Oscar appearance in 1986. His designs have been showcased at various Disney-themed events, including a fashion show sequence in Walt Disney World's 1994 Barbie stage show.
The designer also partnered with Mattel to create couture looks for Barbie and created custom Minnie Mouse outfits as part of the Millennium Minnie designer doll series. Mackie's work has been recognized with numerous awards, including nine Primetime Emmy Awards and three Academy Award nominations.
