Court Blocks PENGASSAN's Chevron Branch Elections
A court in Lagos has ruled against PENGASSAN's dissolution of the Chevron Branch Executive Committee and Chapter Executive Committees, as well as the branch elections held in September 2025.
The National Industrial Court of Nigeria nullified the dissolution on August 10, 2026, deeming it unconstitutional and void, citing a breach of the union's constitution.
Justice Joyce A. O. Damachi ruled that the Central Working Committee's dissolution of the branch executive structures without prior approval from the National Executive Council was unlawful.
The court also declared the Chevron Branch by-laws, reviewed in 2022, valid and subsisting, and ordered fresh elections to be conducted within 30 days under strict compliance with the union's constitution and the extant Chevron Branch by-laws.
