Cramer Touts SWK as 'Pick-and-Shovel' Play in Home Renovation Boom
Jim Cramer, a well-known financial analyst, recently highlighted Stanley Black & Decker (SWK) as a top pick for investors. He believes that the company's strong performance is linked to the ongoing home renovation boom, which has driven demand for tools and equipment at both Home Depot and Lowe's.
Home Depot reported a record-breaking quarter for portable power tool sales, while Lowe's plans to add over 150 new DeWalt items. This surge in demand has benefited SWK, with the company reporting 3% organic revenue growth in Q2, including an 8% increase in power tools revenue.
Cramer noted that SWK's balance sheet has been significantly improved through asset sales, which have reduced leverage by $1.7 billion. However, he cautioned that the tariff refund benefits, which accounted for about 250 basis points of gross margin and $0.17 of adjusted EPS in Q2, are not expected to continue into the second half.
SWK's stock has risen approximately 36% year-to-date, with a market capitalization of over $20 billion. While Cramer sees potential for SWK as a 'pick-and-shovel' supplier to big-box retailers, he hedged on the duration of this setup, suggesting that it may be more of a trade than a long-term investment.
