CSCOs Struggle with ROI of AI Investments Amid Growing Allocation

A recent survey by Gartner found that more than half (55%) of chief supply chain officers (CSCOs) are unclear on the return on investment (ROI) of their AI investments. This is despite the fact that 67% of supply chain digital investments are now allocated to AI, according to Gartner.

CSCO must deploy a 'rightsized' change management strategy to achieve clear and positive returns from their AI investments. This involves linking change execution to AI strategy, supply chain strategy, and broader enterprise priorities, so that change resources are directed toward outcomes and not individual activities.

Gartner surveyed 394 supply chain professionals from organizations with annual revenue of at least $250 million between November 2025 and February 2026. They also surveyed 135 senior supply chain leaders from January through April 2026 to document supply chain AI use cases and clarify the ROI of these activities.
