D23 2026: What's Next for Walt Disney World?
The Disney D23 event is set to take place in Anaheim, California from August 14-16 and is expected to bring major announcements for Walt Disney World's future developments. One of the most highly anticipated reveals could be the new attraction in Piston Peak National Park, a Cars-themed area at the Magic Kingdom. The project was initially announced without revealing what the second ride would be, but fans are expecting it to finally be unveiled.
Another heavily speculated topic is the reimagining of Space Mountain in Tomorrowland, which has not undergone significant refurbishment since 2003. Rumors suggest that the ride could be revamped with a single-track, side-by-side seat coaster design. This would mark a major change for the classic attraction and would likely coincide with updates to the surrounding area.
In addition to new attractions, D23 may also bring news about existing rides. The Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom is overdue for an update, and Imagineer Kim Irvine hinted that the bride's scene could be reimagined in 2025. A similar change could be announced soon for the Magic Kingdom version of the ride.
Another highly anticipated reveal is the Glob Theater show featuring new technology within the Monsters Inc. Monstropolis Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The land itself will feature a door coaster, Harryhausen's restaurant, and the Glob theater. Fans are also speculating about potential changes to Tropical Americas Land in 2027, which will represent parts of Mexico, Central America, and South America.
Finally, D23 may bring news about the Disney Lakeshore Lodge, set to open in summer 2027. The resort was initially announced as Reflections, A Disney Lakeside Lodge but stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic before being revived as Disney Lakeshore Lodge in 2024.
