D23 Teasers Reveal Hidden Details About Disney's Future Attractions
At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Imagineers unveiled new details about several upcoming attractions and lands at Disneyland and Disney World. While many were focused on the splashy reveals for Cars land, Encanto, and Avatar, some subtle hints and Easter eggs caught the attention of eagle-eyed fans.
One such hint was found in the scale model of Piston Peak National Park, which will be part of the new Cars land at Magic Kingdom. An original piece of the Rivers of America waterway that formerly circled Tom Sawyer Island will remain along the Frontierland storefronts as a natural vista for visual rest.
Furthermore, the model showcased a feature that connects Piston Peak to its neighbor, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: hydrothermal activity, complete with geysers and sulfur-covered rocks. This subtle duplication helps tie the areas together visually and geologically.
The video highlighting Disney villains at D23 featured real pieces of Art Nouveau architecture in a collage with certain Disney villains, including Ursula from The Little Mermaid, Hades from Hercules, Dr. Facilier from The Princess and the Frog, and Chernabog from the 'Night on Bald Mountain' portion of Fantasia.
Another interesting update came from the area showcasing the Monsters Inc. land coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios, where a bulletin board revealed sketches and notes about the city's neighborhoods, including Old Town Monstropolis and Frightening Heights, as well as what appears to be a theater's marquee that reads: 'Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley & Mike.'
