Das Wins Lifetime Libertarian Award: Highlighting Inner Freedom in Indian Liberalism
Gurcharan Das, an Indian author and philosopher, has been awarded the Lifetime Libertarian Award by Liberty International. In his acceptance speech, Das highlighted the importance of 'inner freedom' in India's unique contribution to Western liberalism.
Das emphasized that at a time when freedom is shrinking worldwide, the work of Liberty International is more relevant than ever. He believes that India's post-1991 growth story is rooted in individuals being given room to build and compete, rather than top-down engineering.
A former CEO of Procter & Gamble India, Das has written extensively on classical Indian philosophy and its relevance to modern human flourishing. His four-book series on the subject explores various aspects of life, including morality and pleasure, through a lens of Indian thought.
