Data Breach Costs Hit Record High in India
The average cost of a data breach in India has hit an all-time high of ₹25.5 crore, according to a recent report by IBM. This represents a significant increase of 16% from last year's figure of ₹22 crore. The report also highlights that the number of records compromised in a data breach has risen to 39,500 on average in 2026, compared to 38,200 in 2025.
IBM's vice president, Gaurav Agarwal, noted that artificial intelligence adoption is enabling cyber threats to evolve rapidly. He emphasized the need for businesses to embed AI with agentic capabilities across the security lifecycle, from detection and analysis to prioritization and remediation.
The report found that organizations without AI and automation in their security operations face an average cost of ₹31.6 crore per breach, while those with extensive use of AI pay an average of ₹21.3 crore per breach.
