Quincy, Washington, has undergone significant transformation in recent years due to the growth of its data center industry. Once known for agriculture and farming, the city's economy is now driven by computing power. Microsoft broke ground on its Quincy data center campus nearly two decades ago, and since then, the city has seen a boom in infrastructure development.

The new high school, hospital, police station, fire station, library, public works buildings, and aquatic center are just some of the projects that have been completed or are underway. These developments were made possible through voter-approved bonds and local public funding, which was enabled by the increased assessed value and job base created by the data centers.

Nick Konen, a Quincy native who now helps run Microsoft's local campus, noted that the city has grown nearly 27% in population over 15 years. He also mentioned that the old downtown area has undergone significant changes, with two stoplights and a roundabout replacing the previous one-stoplight setup.

The data centers have not only driven economic growth but also brought new technical careers to the community. According to Konen, Microsoft contributed tens of millions of dollars toward the city's industrial water reuse center, which treats cooling water for reuse by local industries rather than discharging it, reducing the need for potable well water.
