Day's Presidential Dreams Crushed by Back Injury

Australian golfer Jason Day's chances of competing in the Presidents Cup have been dashed due to ongoing back problems. The 13-time PGA Tour winner had a promising start to the 2026 season, finishing runner-up at The American Express and T12 at the Masters.

However, his momentum was short-lived as he suffered from back issues that forced him to withdraw from several tournaments, including the U.S. Open in June and the 3M Open in late July.

Day's struggles have left captain Geoff Ogilvy with a tough decision, ultimately deciding not to include him in the team. 'I spoke to Jason quite a lot, sort of between the post-British Open,' Ogilvy said. 'It didn't just feel like a 100% guarantee that he could make it through four days of the Presidents Cup.'

In place of Day, Ogilvy has chosen Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who has experience playing in the Presidents Cup and has built a reputation as a reliable teammate.
