DeepMind Employees Unionize Over Military Technology Concerns

Google DeepMind employees are pushing for collective bargaining to establish morals within the company in response to its provision of cloud and AI technologies to the US and Israeli militaries.

The workers, who launched a unionization bid in May 2026, aim to be recognized under the United Tech and Allied Workers (UTAW) - a national branch of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and Unite the Union.

According to employees, Google has not responded positively to the union effort, with some workers reporting attempts by management to shut down or sideline internal opposition to the use of their technologies by Israeli authorities.
