Dell Warns Semiconductor Crunch Will Worsen Over Next Few Years

Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell has warned investors that the global semiconductor crunch is likely to worsen over the next few years, driving up compute and PC prices even higher. Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, Dell stated that industry-wide supply bottlenecks will 'probably' be worse in 2027 than in 2026.

The rapid advancement of Large Language Models (LLMs) to complex reasoning engines and autonomous agents has outpaced manufacturing lead times, resulting in a deep structural shortage. Customers are initially resistant to higher prices but eventually come to accept them as an existential threat to running their operations looms. 'You know customers sort of go through five stages of grief,' Dell said.

Dell's company is actively monitoring its order pipeline to ensure that equipment is genuinely deployed rather than stockpiled. The tech giant has longstanding supplier partnerships and a vast product catalog, enabling it to dynamically allocate components based on customer demand.
