Delta Boeing 757 Makes Emergency Landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta

A Delta Air Lines Boeing 757-200, flight DL2204 from Atlanta to Orlando, made an emergency landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on August 8, due to smoke and fumes in the cockpit. The aircraft took off at 7:35 AM local time with 199 passengers on board, but just minutes later, pilots reported smoke and fumes in the flight deck, declaring an emergency.

The pilots donned oxygen masks before announcing over the cabin PA that fumes had entered the flight deck, instructing passengers to brace for landing. The aircraft landed safely on Runway 09R roughly 17 minutes after takeoff. However, within minutes of landing, smoke began filling the cabin, prompting an emergency evacuation via slides onto a taxiway.

All 199 passengers and six crew members were evacuated, with one passenger and one crew member requiring medical attention. The aircraft was inspected by airport firefighters, who found no visible smoke, fire or damage to the plane. A replacement aircraft departed Atlanta at 12:05 PM, arriving in Orlando with a four-hour delay.
