Delta Boeing 757 Returns to JFK After Cabin Pressurization Issue
A Delta Air Lines Boeing 757-200 was forced to return to New York-JFK Airport on Thursday morning due to a cabin pressurization issue. Flight DL791, which had 155 passengers and six crew members onboard, was headed to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport when the pilots declared an emergency.
The incident is the second in four days involving Delta's fleet, with another aircraft experiencing a pressurization problem on September 6. The Boeing 737-900ER involved in that incident descended from 36,000 feet to 9,000 feet in less than ten minutes and diverted safely to Las Vegas.
The average age of Delta's 757-200s is over 28 years old, nearly double the average age of its mainline fleet. The carrier has already begun withdrawing individual 757-200s as newer narrowbodies arrive.
