Delta Flight Diverted to Detroit After Pilot Falls Ill Mid-Air
A Delta flight from Los Angeles to Boston made an emergency landing in Detroit after one of its pilots fell ill mid-flight.
The Boeing 757, carrying 147 passengers, diverted to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport following a crew illness, according to Delta's statement. The flight had departed LAX at 10:45 a.m. on August 27, 2026, and was headed to Logan International Airport in Boston.
The captain, who was the ill crew member, radioed air traffic control to inform them of his condition. He said, 'This is the captain. I'm the one that's ill. I’m gonna taxi the jet to the gate, and then I need to go to the hospital.'
