SkyMiles can be notoriously unpredictable when it comes to award pricing. However, some travelers have discovered a pattern that allows them to snag better deals.

Taking the Minneapolis (MSP) to Chicago (ORD) flight as an example, one traveler tracked the price drop from over 12,000 SkyMiles each to just $69 on Google Flights. He waited about 10 hours before checking Delta.com again and found that the award rate had dropped to 4,100 SkyMiles.

This strategy can be applied when seeing a cash price drop, don't rush to rebook right away. Instead, set a reminder and check back later for lower award rates.
