DeSaulnier's Bill Aims to Repeal Section 230 Liability Shield
Representative Mark DeSaulnier has introduced H.R. 10332, a bill aimed at repealing Section 230 of the Communications Act.
This law currently shields online platforms from liability for user-generated content, allowing them to host and moderate vast amounts of material without fear of lawsuits.
The proposed repeal would remove this protection, exposing companies like Google, Meta, and Pinterest to increased legal claims related to user-posted content.
The bill also makes technical changes to other federal laws that reference Section 230, updating definitions and provisions in areas such as obscenity rules, trademark law, copyright law, and drug-related legislation.
