Detrick Sees 15%-18% Upside in S&P 500 as Tech and Financials Lead
The S&P 500 has been experiencing a sideways chop after three consecutive days of losses, but Chief Market Strategist Ryan Detrick from Carson Group doesn't see this as a red flag. In fact, he's raised his target for the S&P 500 to a 15%-18% gain for the year.
Detrick recommends buying into technology, financials, and industrials to profit from an unstoppable economic engine. Technology remains a primary overweight holding for him, fueled by expected $1 trillion in capital expenditures from major hyperscalers by 2027.
The sector's immense, circular spending ecosystem is driving its growth, with tech giants like Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) reaping huge profits from investments in private ventures. Detrick notes that if the market were to purely lose tech leadership, it would be hard to be bullish.
Detrick advises buying cyclicals, specifically financials and industrials, to capture broader economic upside in the second half of the year. Bank stocks are surging, with the State Street SPDR S&P Bank ETF (NYSE:KBE) breaking out above levels not seen since 2007. The sector's diverse roster of companies makes it a 'nice pseudo way' to have exposure to an economy that will likely continue to surprise to the upside.'
