Dimon Bets Big on San Francisco with $200M Housing Investment
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has placed a huge bet on San Francisco by investing $200 million in Bay Area housing and opening a new headquarters in the California city.
Dimon praised Mayor Daniel Lurie's efforts to revitalize the city, citing a 25% drop in crime rates in 2025 compared to the previous year. Violent crime decreased by 18%, and property crime dropped by 27%. However, homicides have increased slightly, with 16 recorded in the first six months of 2026 compared to 12 during the same period last year.
The bank is also committing $750 billion through 2035 to help increase housing supply nationwide, including building one million affordable units. This investment is part of JPMorgan Chase's efforts to address the issue of eye-watering rent prices pushing public sector workers out of San Francisco.
Dimon acknowledged that more needs to be done to fix the problem, stating 'if you had proper housing supply that could be rapidly deployed, you wouldn't have that problem.' The bank is helping alleviate this by funding a 342-unit waterfront housing project in the city.
