Dimon Flags Hidden Market Leverage as US Economy Showcases Resilience
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has sounded a warning about high levels of hidden market leverage. This debt is spread across prime brokerages, hedge funds, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), making it harder to track.
According to Dimon, this leverage is 'pretty high' and often not clearly labeled as standard debt. He notes that while the market can usually handle small issues, widespread elevated debt could make the financial system more sensitive to sudden shocks.
Despite his concerns about leverage, Dimon remains cautiously optimistic about the US economy, citing resilience in growth fueled by infrastructure investments and AI advancements. However, he views inflation as a potential troublemaker, describing it as the 'skunk at a party.'
