Dimon Warns Dollar Dominance Linked to Military Supremacy
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has sounded an alarm about the future of the US dollar as the world's reserve currency. He believes that American military supremacy is crucial to maintaining the dollar's dominant position in global finance.
According to Dimon, if the US can no longer boast the world's strongest economy and military within 25 years, it will lose its status as the world's reserve currency. This would lead to a fragmented world with significant risks for the US.
Daniel McDowell, associate director of Syracuse University's Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs, supports Dimon's assertion that American economic might and military power are inextricably linked with the dollar's strength. He notes that a strong military makes a currency more appealing to foreign investors because it signals their assets' security.
McDowell warns that a weakened US military could deter allies from buying Treasury bonds and investing in the country, as they would worry about their dollar-denominated assets being vulnerable to attack. Additionally, losing an all-out conflict with a rival like China or Russia could also impact the dollar's strength.
