Discontinued Sodas That Still Have a Loyal Following
The soft drink industry is home to many discontinued products that still have loyal followings. Some of these sodas, like Surge and Crystal Pepsi, were popular in their time but ultimately failed to capture a significant market share.
Surge was Coca-Cola's citrus-flavored answer to Mountain Dew, launched in the late 1990s with aggressive marketing aimed at teenagers. Despite its initial success, declining sales led to its discontinuation in 2003. However, Surge inspired devoted fan campaigns that eventually led to its limited revival in 2014.
Crystal Pepsi was another product that failed to gain traction despite its unique clear bottle and citrus flavor. Released in 1992 during the 'clear craze,' it initially captured 1% of the soft drink market share, worth hundreds of millions of dollars. However, within a year, the initial enthusiasm evaporated, and by 1993, the product itself was gone.
