Disney and Pokémon Team Up for New Stop-Motion Series
The Pokémon franchise is teaming up with Disney in a major distribution deal that will bring both classic and new content to Disney XD and Disney+.
A new stop-motion animated series, Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, is set to premiere on the platforms in 2027. Created by Aardman Animations, the same studio behind Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run, the show follows Sirfetch’d and Pichu as they embark on an epic journey through the Galar Region.
In addition to the new series, Disney+ is now streaming 22 episodes of Pokémon the Series: The Beginning from 1997-1998. This classic series began airing on Disney XD earlier this month.
Disney Kids & Family President Ayo Davis expressed excitement for the partnership, stating that 'Pokémon has that rare ability to mean something to longtime fans while continuing to feel completely relevant to young audiences today.'
Aardman's stop-motion artistry will bring a fresh perspective to the beloved world of Pokémon.
