Disney and TikTok Team Up for Short-Form Video Partnership
The Walt Disney Company and TikTok have announced a major partnership that will allow social media creators to make short-form videos using Disney's famous characters, including Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar.
The deal, which is being billed as 'first-of-its-kind,' will enable users to upload and share these videos on both TikTok and Disney+.
Financial details of the partnership have not been revealed, but it's expected to boost usage of Disney+, which has around 130 million global subscribers. In the United States, Disney+ is the third-most watched service, capturing about 5% of watch time in May, according to Nielsen data.
In a call with analysts, Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro said that the addition of short-form video 'creates a more complete experience' on Disney+, making users stay longer and engage more. He also highlighted that this feature will help users discover new shows.
