Disney Cancels Marvel's Wonder Man Series Despite Renewal
Disney has cancelled Marvel's 'Wonder Man' series despite being renewed for season two just months ago. The show, which received huge acclaim from viewers and a surprise Emmy nomination for lead star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, was hailed as being unlike anything Marvel had released in years.
In March, Disney announced that the series would be returning, calling it a 'small miracle' after streaming figures were lower than hoped. However, Variety has reported that the show's writers have been released so they can pursue other projects.
Abdul-Mateen II was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series category and expressed gratitude to fans on social media, saying 'That's life, right? Everything will shake out.'
Fans were left 'crushed' and 'heartbroken' by the unexpected news, with one fan calling it a 'small miracle' that the show lasted as long as it did. The series has 91 per cent on review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.
