Disney CEO Congratulates Sony on Spider-Man: Brand New Day Success
Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro surprised many by congratulating Sony on the success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day during a quarterly earnings call. The film's record-breaking opening, with $360 million in box office sales, made it the biggest opening in history and the second-fastest to reach $1 billion.
D'Amaro highlighted the strength of the Spider-Man franchise across all Disney divisions, noting that the character has been a success for 65 years. He pointed out that when Spider-Man breaks records, both Sony and Disney benefit from increased revenue through consumer products, theme parks, and streaming.
The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day is seen as a boost to Disney's upcoming Avengers film, Doomsday, which is set for release on December 18. With the format optional, as shown by the record-breaking opening of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in premium large formats and IMAX, Marvel is confident that Doomsday will follow suit.
