Disney Closes Play Disney Parks App After Eight-Year Run
Disney's Play Disney Parks app will shut down on September 16, 2026. The app has been available for eight years since its launch in 2018 and offered interactive games, trivia, digital achievements, and other activities to enhance the theme park experience.
The app was particularly notable for its integration with Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios, where guests could turn their phones into a Star Wars Datapad. This feature allowed users to scan cargo, translate Aurebesh, interact with droids and control panels, intercept transmissions, and complete other activities throughout the Black Spire Outpost.
However, not all experiences connected to the app will disappear. Disney confirmed that select in-park experiences, including Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters, will remain available using MagicBand+. This means that guests can still participate in these activities after the Play Disney Parks app is shut down.
