Disney College Program Cast Member Killed by Lightning Strike

A 20-year-old cast member participating in the Disney College Program at Walt Disney World Resort has died after being struck by lightning during a storm.

Matthew Eric Jenkins, from Shelby Township, Michigan, had moved to Central Florida just one week earlier to join the internship program.

According to eyewitnesses, several people were taking shelter from the storm when lightning struck nearby. One of them collapsed and witnesses rushed to his aid, starting CPR until first responders arrived.

Jenkins was transported to Celebration Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
