Disney Commemorates 25th Anniversary of September 11 Attacks
Disney's Entertainment Television arm is launching a multiplatform commemoration of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The initiative brings together Disney+, Hulu, ABC News, and National Geographic to honor the victims and their families with programming that highlights the stories of courage, compassion, and resilience from that day.
The 25th anniversary of the attacks will be marked by a live national broadcast on ABC News and WABC-TV New York, which can also be streamed on Disney+ and Hulu. The special, '9/11 Tribute in Light: Live from Lower Manhattan,' is produced in collaboration with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
Hosted by David Muir, Robin Roberts, and Diane Sawyer, the broadcast will honor the victims killed, reflect on the lasting impact of September 11, and commemorate the resilience of survivors, families, first responders, and communities affected by the attacks. It culminates with the iconic public art installation 'Tribute in Light,' which illuminates the New York City skyline every year.
National Geographic's three-part docuseries '9/11 Reunited' premieres on August 21, with all episodes streaming on Disney+ and Hulu. The series revisits the deadliest terrorist attacks in U.S. history through the human connections formed amid the chaos, courage, and heartbreak of that day.
Disney's commemoration kicked off in early June when 'Good Morning America' introduced a new PSA campaign from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum to mark the anniversary by highlighting a new generation of Americans inspired by 9/11 heroes.
