Disney Cuts Spousal Health Benefits Amid $185 Billion Valuation
The Walt Disney Company is making significant changes to its benefits package for cast members. Starting in 2027, Disney will no longer provide spousal health insurance coverage under its company healthcare plans.
This decision was announced by Eric Chaisson, EVP of Total Rewards and Employee Services, as part of the company's new employee loyalty and benefits program, 'Total Rewards.'
The change is attributed to rising healthcare costs, which are projected to climb 9.5% to 11.1% next year. However, Disney's market capitalization is valued at $185 billion, making it one of the largest entertainment companies in the world.
The decision will impact thousands of cast members' families, who may be forced onto their own employers' plans with potentially inferior coverage, higher deductibles, or more expensive premiums. Cast members must navigate a complicated transition during open enrollment season instead of feeling secure in their employer's care.
