Disney Guests Left Hanging After Canceled Show
Florida's unpredictable weather can be a major bummer for Disney World vacationers. When torrential downpours cancel expensive, prepaid VIP experiences like Fantasmic! at Hollywood Studios, guests rightfully expect a seamless resolution.
However, for visitors who book premium dining packages tied to nighttime spectaculars, a canceled show means being forced into a chaotic, hours-long battle at Guest Relations just to try and recoup their money.
A recent account shared on social media revealed that Disney World places the burden of customer service entirely on guests after a severe storm forced the abrupt cancellation of Fantasmic!
Guests who had purchased the upcharged Fantasmic! Dining Package were told they would have to wait in a massive line at the park entrance to argue their case and get a refund, rather than using the My Disney Experience app to issue automatic refunds.
The conflict stems from how Disney prices these experiences. Guests pay significantly more for the dining package than they would if they simply ordered the same food off the standard menu. You are paying a steep premium for reserved show seating.
Disney's internal system views the primary transaction as fulfilled, leaving guests holding the bag for an entertainment experience they never received.
