Disney Honors 25th Anniversary of 9/11 with Multiplatform Tribute
Disney Entertainment Television is commemorating the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, with a multiplatform tribute. The initiative brings together ABC News, National Geographic, Disney+, Hulu, and other platforms to honor those killed, reflect on the attacks' lasting impact, and celebrate the resilience of survivors, families, first responders, and communities affected.
The centerpiece is a live national broadcast from ABC News and WABC-TV New York, which will air on September 11 at 8:00 p.m. EDT across various platforms. The special, '9/11 Tribute in Light: Live from Lower Manhattan,' will be led by anchors David Muir, Robin Roberts, and Diane Sawyer.
National Geographic's three-part docuseries '9/11 Reunited' premieres on August 21, revisiting the deadliest terrorist attacks in U.S. history through human connections formed amid chaos, courage, and heartbreak. The series reunites survivors with strangers who changed their lives, providing a rare opportunity to ask questions and express gratitude.
Disney Entertainment Television's commemoration aims to ensure that the stories of September 11 endure for future generations. The initiative is part of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum's broader effort to build awareness of the continued significance of 9/11, reveal powerful stories of service, and help the institution remain an enduring place of commemoration, education, and inspiration.
The Never Forget Fund campaign, introduced by 'Good Morning America' in early June, highlights a new generation of Americans inspired by 9/11 heroes to pursue public service. Michael R. Bloomberg has pledged to match the next $25 million raised for The Never Forget Fund.
