Disney Monorail Stranded by Lightning Power Outage
The Walt Disney World monorails are a convenient way for guests to travel between theme parks. However, when bad weather strikes, travel can be disrupted. On September 8, a monorail bound for EPCOT was temporarily stopped due to a power outage caused by lightning.
The monorail had been operating for an hour and a half before the power went out, leaving passengers stranded without air conditioning. In an attempt to open the windows, some guests used a pocket knife - but security restrictions prevented them from bringing one in. Two windows were eventually removed, allowing passengers to exit.
Once off the monorail, Disney guest relations offered affected passengers cold bottles of water, $50 gift cards, and a Lightning Lane pass as compensation for their inconvenience.
