Disney Offers Early Retirement Package to Veteran Executives
Disney is offering voluntary early retirement to its veteran executives as part of its cost-cutting measures. The Voluntary Early Retirement Offer (VERO) is an enhanced retirement package available to U.S.-based executives at the Director through Executive Vice President level across Disney Entertainment, ESPN, and corporate divisions.
To be eligible for VERO, executives must have 65 points, which are calculated by adding their age and the number of years they've worked for Disney. The offer includes financial incentives, lifetime free entry to Disney theme parks, separation pay, continued vesting of existing equity awards, and healthcare at active employee rates.
The move comes after a year of layoffs at Disney, including 1,000 positions cut in April and several hundred more in July. Disney's CEO Josh D'Amaro is looking to solidify his own stability by removing the leaders of the past and replacing them with his own hand-picked loyalists.
The company has been under pressure to leverage AI and adapt to mergers and acquisitions among its rivals. With declining television viewership and revenue, Disney's entertainment industry faces a time of upheaval.
