Disney Offers Early Retirement Packages to Veteran Executives Amid Ongoing Layoffs
Disney is offering early retirement packages to its veteran executives as part of its ongoing cost-reduction efforts. The company's Chief People Officer Sonia Coleman outlined the Voluntary Early Retirement Offer (VERO) in a memo sent to eligible employees, which includes those ranked director and above.
The VERO program offers an enhanced retirement package, including separation pay based on tenure and level, healthcare coverage at employee rates for up to one year, and continued vesting of existing equity awards for three years. Participants will also receive lifetime Silver Pass access to Disney theme parks outside of blackout dates.
The offer is limited to U.S.-based executives who have reached at least 50 years of age, logged a minimum of 10 years with the company, and accumulated at least 65 points (age plus years of service). The program carries no non-compete clause or restrictions on future employment, meaning executives can keep their separation pay even if they take a new job during the severance period.
This is part of Disney's broader cost-reduction effort, which has already included multiple rounds of involuntary layoffs this year. In April, the company cut roughly 1,000 jobs in marketing and corporate functions, and then eliminated several hundred additional positions in July, affecting divisions such as Pixar, National Geographic, and ESPN.
