Disney Orders Sci-Fi Series Based on EPCOT's Spaceship Earth

Disney has greenlit a new TV show based on EPCOT's iconic Spaceship Earth geodesic sphere. The ride, which has been in operation since the 1980s, will be transformed into a sci-fi series with a focus on time travel and global catastrophe. Jason Fuchs, known for his work on 'IT: Welcome To Derry', will head up the project along with Michael Waldron, who previously produced 'Rick And Morty' and helmed the first season of Disney+'s 'Loki'. The show's logline hints at a story involving teenagers from different eras joining forces to prevent an impending global disaster.

The series is set to tap into Waldron's experience with sci-fi and time travel, although it remains unclear whether the iconic Spaceship Earth structure will play a central role in the narrative. Disney has had mixed success with adaptations of its theme park attractions, including 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' and more recent films like 'Tomorrowland' and 'Wish'. However, fans of the ride may be excited to see it reimagined as a TV show.
