Disney Patent Tricks Elevation Change with Set Design Illusion
A new patent from Disney Enterprises, Inc. describes an elevation change illusion that could be used in future Walt Disney World attractions.
The patent, titled 'Elevation Change Illusion Through Set Design,' lists Imagineer Daniel Joseph as the lead inventor, along with Jessica Klouda, Martha Gutierrez Navarro, and Jason Monahan.
The trick involves creating a vanishing point based on where the track leads and using set pieces next to the track to create a second vanishing point, positioned above or below the first.
This creates an illusion that tricks the brain into sensing height changes even when the track is actually level.
