Disney Revives Abandoned Projects Amid EPCOT Renaissance
Disney World has been plagued by abandoned projects over its 50+ year history. Two of the most notable examples are the Mary Poppins attraction and the Play! Pavilion, both announced in 2019 as part of EPCOT's reimagining.
The Mary Poppins attraction was supposed to be an indoor teacup-style ride themed within a recreation of Cherry Lane from the film series. Concept art was released, but work on the project stopped during the COVID-19 pandemic and never resumed.
The Play! Pavilion was also announced in 2019 as an interactive futuristic city where guests could interact with Disney characters. However, like Mary Poppins, it was seemingly canceled following the pandemic and is now removed from park guide maps.
But Disney has a history of reviving abandoned projects. At this year's D23 event, the company announced a revamped version of Spaceship Earth that will take guests into the internet age. Additionally, fans have been calling for the return of Dreamfinder, and at last year's D23 Ultimate Fan Event, Neil Patrick Harris confirmed that it is coming back.
