Disney Revives Classic Theme Park Rides for New Movies and TV Shows
Disney is revisiting its theme park rides for new movies and TV shows. The company has a long history of adapting classic attractions into films, some of which have become huge hits like Pirates of the Caribbean. However, not all attempts have been successful.
The latest developments include five theme park rides that are being developed into new movies and series in the coming years. Spaceship Earth at EPCOT is being turned into a Disney+ series, with a pilot episode currently in production. The story follows a group of teenagers from different time periods who must join forces to prevent a global cataclysm.
Another ride, Journey Into Imagination with Figment, is being developed into a movie. The purple dragon Figment has become a beloved character over the years and will be the main focus of the film. Disney recently announced that it would be updating the current version of the ride to include the return of Figment's co-star, Dreamfinder.
The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is also getting another installment, with a sixth movie potentially starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and introducing Margot Robbie as a new character. Disney has been circling this project for years and is currently working on a screenplay.
In addition to these projects, Club 33 is being developed into a movie that posits the club as a mystical gathering of famous historical figures. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad might also be turned into a film, although no updates have been provided since its initial announcement in 2022.
