Disney Scooter Abuse Allegations Spark Debate Over Accessibility Policies
A viral video has sparked a heated debate over the use of electronic conveyance vehicles (ECVs) at Disney Parks. The footage shows a group of women riding ECVs through Animal Kingdom with 'Ridin'' playing in the background, seemingly as a joke. However, many guests have expressed frustration and outrage on social media, labeling it 'scooter abuse'. Some commenters pointed out that Disney often runs out of scooters during peak times, making it difficult for those who truly need them to rent one.
Some guests even suggested that renting an ECV should require proof or a similar process as the Disability Access Service (DAS), which is available for guests with disabilities. Others shrugged off the incident, pointing out that some disabilities are invisible and not visible to the naked eye.
The current policy at Walt Disney World and Disneyland does not restrict who can rent an ECV; all guests need to be 18 years old and provide a photo ID. Both parks note that ECVs are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
