Disney Secures Approval for Fifth Theme Park in Central Florida

Walt Disney World has been granted permission to build a fifth major theme park on its Central Florida property, according to a report from TheStreet. This comes as no surprise, given that Disney's current parks have been growing and evolving over the years.

The Comprehensive Plan 2045, which outlines potential development across Walt Disney World's massive property, notes that approximately 850 acres would be necessary for another major theme park. However, it also emphasizes that there are currently 'no plans under review.'

While this might seem like a straightforward approval, experts believe that Disney is waiting for the right moment to make an announcement. The timing of this conversation is particularly interesting, as D23 takes place from August 14 to 16.

The potential fifth park would send a message to Universal Orlando Resort, which has been expanding its own theme parks and resort offerings. Epic Universe, opened in May 2025, marked a significant shift in the Central Florida theme park landscape.
