Disney Seeks Patent for Automated Assistive Device Kiosks
Disney has filed a patent application for an automated system to distribute assistive devices to eligible theme park guests. The proposed kiosk, called 'Method and Apparatus for Entitlement', would authenticate users through a connected network and check their profiles before dispensing approved items.
The system could provide various assistive devices such as listening equipment, headphones, strollers, wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and powered scooters. It also allows for the return of equipment for reuse or recycling, potentially helping Disney manage its inventory more efficiently.
However, questions remain about how Disney would determine eligibility, a concern that has sparked debate as the company revises its accessibility procedures to address changing guest needs and potential misuse.
