Disney Sees Strong Quarter on Toy Story Box Office and Theme Park Attendance
The Walt Disney Company reported strong earnings for its third quarter, driven by a $1 billion box office haul from 'Toy Story 5' and increased attendance at its US theme parks. The Experiences division, which includes Disney's six global theme parks, cruise line, merchandise, and video game licensing, saw operating income climb 20% to $3.02 billion and revenue reach $9.97 billion.
Domestic parks saw a 27% increase in operating income, while international parks experienced a decline of 13%. Overall attendance at US parks rose 3% from the previous year, aided by summer promotions and new experiences offered at the parks.
The success of 'Toy Story 5' extended beyond the box office, with increased viewings of other Toy Story films on Disney+ and higher sales of Toy Story merchandise. The company also noted strong performance of 'The Devil Wears Prada 2,' particularly overseas.
