Disney Settles Antitrust Lawsuit Over Streaming Prices with $50 Million Payout
A $50 million settlement has been reached in an antitrust lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company over allegations of inflating streaming prices. Subscribers to YouTube TV, DirecTV Stream (including DirecTV Now and AT&T TV Now), and FuboTV may qualify for payment.
The lawsuit accused Disney of raising its own product prices to inflate the market-wide costs of streaming live pay television. Specifically, plaintiffs claimed that prices dramatically increased after Disney took control of Hulu in 2019.
Disney denied any wrongdoing but agreed to a partial settlement with YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream subscribers. Those who qualify can file a claim online or by mail until September 2026. Payments will be split between those in 'repealer jurisdictions' (90%) and those in 'non-repealer jurisdictions' (10%). Each subscriber's payment will be proportional to the length of their subscription.
